“Porquê deitar,
Se eu posso criar?”

We love what we do & we are getting better with time

Kilig started as a DIY project, but quickly developed into something bigger than what we expected. The love for our project has evolved with every piece created – ensuring we always aim for our best.

We always aim to do more than simply recycle – we reuse  leftover materials from our projects and combine these with other pieces to create new beautiful pieces. By doing so, not only do we create priceless pieces but we also ensure that our pieces are sustainable.

  • 2013

Restored a Colonial house in Maputo, including treating  wood against termites and decay, replacing doors and windows; and transforming period objects into furniture.

  • 2014

Started our recycling activities by transforming wooden pallets, metal bathtubs and other materials into furniture.

Joined an exciting project – the creation of a business centre – and were involved in the construction and small decorative details.

  • 2016

Kicked off the production of beautiful modern furniture made from Mozambican hardwood. This followed a gap analysis that made it clear that local furniture shops were selling non-durable unaffordable furniture, which often led to consumers purchasing goods abroad (thus missing out on Mozambique’s beautiful materials).

  • 2018

Expanded our consumer outreach by participating in local fairs, creating a strong presence on social media and targeting commercial clients such as hotels and restaurants.

  • 2019

Launched our wood treatment and fumigation services following a large inflow of calls for help in treating wooden floors, doors, windows and furniture against termites.

Quality, passion & hard work are at the core of our pieces.

We work with local materials from certified suppliers

The Kilig project results from our love for wood, and in particular for Mozambican wood. Our aim has been to dignify this precious material by producing high quality furniture designs, while maintaining the uniqueness of our our designs. To ensure that we contribute to sustainable use of Mozambique’s resources we have vowed to only purchase raw material from credible suppliers, whilst reducing wastage and recycling as much as possible.

Our Philosophy

01

Modern and Timeless Designs

Our wood is beautiful and we design, plan and build to match it. Our objective is to create pieces that will last a lifetime.

02

Sustainability

It is important to us that our wood is being explored and maintained in accordance with the legal framework. We also ensure that our wood is used to its full potential, making sure that nothing goes to waste.

03

Quality in All Aspects

Every project is a learning experience for us. Sometimes things don’t go according to plan, but we never give up. We always work until we have achieved perfection.

04

Supporting Credible Local Distributors

The rise in illegal exports of Mozambican wood has made working with trustworthy distributors even more important to us.
